Sexual Sin.

Fornication/Adultery/Homosexuality/Pornography/Pedophilia

I know that there are others that I have neglected to list above, but these sexual sins seem to be the most prevalent in our society today and throughout history (with the exception of pornography). Majority opinion today is that it is acceptable and actually encouraged for each individual to have sex with whomever you want, however you want, and whenever you want, as long as you’re “careful.” Of course, there are precautions people use because they want to be responsible and don’t want to suffer the natural consequences of premarital sex like getting an STD or getting pregnant.

I’m sorry, but a condom won’t protect you from the wrath of God. (ß someone else came up with that, can’t take credit!)

God Himself created sex, so it’s not that He’s grossed out by the concept. We are sexual beings, but He has put guidelines upon the nature of our sexual activities. And He’s decreed these guidelines in order that we might preserve our bodies/souls and be protected from the destruction that we so naturally tend to bring upon ourselves. Of course, the world has always laughed in the face of this concept as they’ve torn off their clothes and jumped into bed with strangers to seek as much pleasure as possible because after all, “it’s my body, I’ll do with it what I want.”

Friend, did you create your body? …No? Okay, then you don’t own it.

Any sexual activity outside of marriage is sexual sin.

Sexual sin violently wages war on your soul. In my opinion , it is more catastrophic to our lives than any other of sin. Which I believe is biblical based on 1 Corinthians 6:18– “Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body.” Coming from an overwhelmingly dark indulgence in sexual immorality myself, I know quite vividly the power that sexual sin can have over a person once they have plunged headfirst into their burning passions (read Romans 1).

Sex is physical, but the effects go beyond your body. You are a triune creature made in the image of God (body, soul, spirit), therefore whatever you do with your physical body will have effect on your mind and spirit. And vice-versa.  Jesus pointed out this truth, stating that if you lust after a woman in your heart (not even anything physical yet), you have committed sexual sin.

In marriage, when you have sex with your husband or wife you become one flesh with them (Genesis 2:24) and through that intimacy you gain a bond with your spouse which goes beyond the surface level, fleshy satisfaction of casual sex. But outside of this covenant, things can get very dangerous. When you start dabbling into sexual things outside of marriage, the sin will quickly overtake your will and start dictating the thoughts and actions of your life. You become blinded by your lust and you fail to operate within the reality that there is a God who is constantly watching you and taking record of everything you do. You are driven by your desire to watch porn, masturbate, have sex , etc. You live under the power of the lie that the pleasure you gain from that sexual experience is far better than being obedient and submissive to the God that created you. You unrighteously become a slave to yourself, your sex drive, and ultimately…. Satan.

The deeper and more consistently you engage in sexual sin, the harder and more indignant your heart becomes toward God and the truth that He has revealed to humanity about how we should live our lives. All you can think about is sex. Every person you look at you imagine having sex with. You don’t view them as people anymore, you view them as objects that can give you pleasure and in your sick imagination conjure up all the ways in which that person can satisfy you. I’ve been there before. You might think that you are fooling everyone else and that they would never suspect that you were processing such perverse scenes in your mind, but God knows. He knows every second of every one of your thoughts even more thoroughly then you did when you thought it. You may try to block Him out of your mind, but no matter how hard you try, you can’t escape His presence and omniscience.

This is a sexually excited and stimulated world that we live in, especially America. You can throw away your computer or stop going to bars to find a hook-up if you want, but there’s no possible way to escape your own mind. Environmental changes may help, but they aren’t the ultimate solution. You could try counseling/sex therapy, but all that will cause you to do is temporarily suppress the sin in your soul or exchange the sexual sins for another habitual sin. The root problem is your heart, and the only escape from the evil of your heart is through the Cross of Jesus Christ. He can heal your mind, redirect your thoughts and place your affections on Himself rather than on the vile desires of your flesh.

Stop letting perverted sexual fantasies and orgies wage war on your soul. Look to Jesus Christ on the Cross and see the bloodiness of His disfigured body. God took your sin and placed it on the head of His Son and it waged war on HIS SOUL, in order that you might be set free. The horrifying penalty for your sin AND the mercy of God toward you met on the Cross. Wake up and believe it. Believe on the only begotten Son of God.

Don’t fall for the lies.

People love to attack the authenticity and authority of the Bible, because the truth revealed in it attacks the evil flesh of every single human being that reads it. But the fact of the matter is, the Scriptures are the only legitimate source in this world that claim to have divine authority. Well, the only source that hasn’t been blatantly proven wrong. Any logical thought given toward other alleged “holy books/writings” like the Quran or Book of Mormon results in the obvious assessment that their attempts to explain reality are contradictory and ludicrous. The Bible makes sense of creation, existence, joy, pain, sickness, death, etc. Yet, so much of the world wants to reject it entirely and instead imagine/invent their own theories to make sense of reality. Why would you trust the thoughts/words of another fallible human being in regard to your life and eternity? (Yes, I know many say “well, the bible is written by man”. The bible was penned by man, but inspired by the Spirit of God. Just read it and look at the evidence of fulfilled prophecy. The evidence doesn’t lie. Unless man has gained the ability to know and control future events 100′s of years in advance, the bible was not “written” by man. Research it yourself.)

Not only have the Scriptures given witness (by fulfilled prophecy/preservation) to their own authority, but Jesus Christ came into the world 2,000 years ago affirming the truth of the inspired books by boldly proclaiming that they spoke of Him. “You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about me”- John 5:39. And He bore witness to His authority by signs and miracles and His resurrection from death. If you don’t believe that, then why did He gain such an enormous following in such a short time of ministry? Why are we still talking about Him 2,000 years later? Why have people literally given their lives (beheaded, crucified upside down, burned at the stake, torn apart by lions, etc) instead of just denouncing His name? And if He didnt’ raise from the dead, don’ t you think that the day all this “Christianity” started, that the Jews/Romans would have put His dead body on display somewhere to refute all the claims of His resurrection? Use the mind God gave you to process this evidence logically. The evidence speaks for itself.

No, we can not see God and we can not see Christ right now, but does the sight of our eyes determine what is real? Is reality limited to your retina? If a blind person told you that you were not real because they could not see you, that does not mean you do not exist. With confidence, you would assure them through your words that you are in fact real and exist. In the same way, God, whom we can not see, is with confidence and authority speaking to this spiritually blind human race through His Word.

If the bible is true (which it is) and Jesus was God in the flesh (which He was), then that has major implications for every single human being in the earth. Because according to the truth revealed to us through Scripture/Christ, we are all dead in our sins. We are all evil (By the way, stop comparing yourself to other people, and examine your life against the Scriptures and a Holy God. You aren’t “good”). There is nothing that we can do in and of ourselves in order to escape the condemnation that we justly deserve for rejecting the truth of God and pursuing our own desires rather than worshipping the God who gave us the breath of life in the first place. Our only hope is that God apply the blood of Jesus Christ to our lives and impute His righteousness to us. We are helpless. We are vulnerable. There is no other avenue of escape than through Jesus.

The prince of this world (Satan) as more authority and influence in this world than we tend to give him credit for. Stop thinking of him as the culture has portrayed him (with horns and a tail), and view him realistically through the light of Scripture. He is more powerful, intelligent and devious than any human to ever walk the earth. He is the father of lies, diluting and perverting the truth of God and speaking lies through the mouths of secular philosophers, false religious leaders… and even many professing Christians. Remember that there is a very real spiritual realm that we are visually ignorant to where the powers that God expelled out of Heaven are fervently working against humanity. They don’t want us to come into the knowledge of the truth and worship the God who they so passionately hate.

Truth isn’t relative and it isn’t subject to our feelings, opinions or philosophies. We are subject to the truth in the Word of God. Every word of it.

Don’t fall for the lies.

“See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ.”- Colossians 2:8.

Self examination.

The past few months have been a time of rigorous self examination. I’ve had so many questions exploding in my mind.

  • Do I really believe all of this?
  • Do I really believe the entire Bible to be inspired by the God?
  • Do I really believe that Jesus Christ was the Son of God?
  • Do I have faith?

This has been going on for a few months. I believe the Lord has allowed these questions to rise up in me so that in turn I will be rooted deeply in what I profess to believe. But these questions have scared me. I am already insecure in so many other ways, the last thing I need is to feel insecure in my faith. But rather than cowardly ignoring these questions, I decided to confront them.

I have had to dig deeply into myself. Deeper than I have ever been before. I have had to dig into the Word of God and let it cut me where I needed to be cut. It has been a grueling and painful process. But I’m starting to get a glimpse to the other side of this valley I have been trudging through the past few months. By the power of His Spirit, my eyes are starting to be opened even more to the glorious truth of who Jesus Christ is. I’m starting to see Him for who He really is.

As God.

I’m seeing Him now as the center of reality. I see Him now as the One who has set forth this existence into motion with the Word of His mouth, and is actively involved in every aspect of it. He, Christ Jesus, is the sustaining force that keeps all things going. He, Christ Jesus, is the very centrality of life. Everything that exists, both seen and unseen, is linked directly to Him because nothing can exist without Him declaring that it should be……like people. Every human life has come into being because He has decided in His mind that it should be so. Every human life is constantly being observed and closely examined by His eternal eye. He sustains each heart beat, each breath, each cellular function, each thought, each emotion, each word. Every second in time, like this one, occurs as a result of His magnificent power.

Who He is will not be changed by my inability to fully comprehend all of this. He is forever unchangeable and His love toward me is steadfast for eternity. I find my rest and peace in the unmerited love that He has for me. It is that love that casts out my fear and eliminates my insecurities.

He bled for me. He suffered for me. He died for me.

He is so good.

Yet so often I live like all of these things are not true. I think about so many other things besides the One who gave me this time. The words I speak so often have nothing to do with the gracious God who both gave me this life, and died for me to have life that would continue forever.

I want to really live the life that His death has purchased for me. In complete submission to His will and His desires and always seeking His glory above my own. Only in these things will I find my joy.

He is worthy of more than the life I’ve been living. A mediocre, lukewarm life that is only as radical as my most recent facebook status. I was created for more.
